How did we choose AMALGA

A fair question. Getting to this name took months. We mulled over dozens of options, and they were all good. But AMALGA was the best.

From the beginning, we wanted the name to reference a place. We wanted to anchor it not only in Southeast Alaska, but squarely in Juneau. We thought of mountains, and islands and glaciers and forests. We considered historic mines and the names of our favorite trails. And, they all worked; you could so clearly envision the labels. None of them felt just right, though. Until Maura suggested AMALGA.[/x_text][x_image type=”none” src=”http://www.amalgadistillery.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/IMG_6276.jpg” alt=”” link=”false” href=”#” title=”” target=”” info=”none” info_place=”top” info_trigger=”hover” info_content=””][x_text]AMALGA is a place very close to our home, and very close to our hearts. On a sunny day (or a just not too rainy day), it is where we head off to on our bikes for an afternoon cocktail. When the weather is clear and the water is calm, it is where we take our little 13 foot Boston Whaler and venture out to watch whales and sea lions and check our crab pots. It is beautiful, and our gateway to the amazing Lynn Canal. What really made us fall in love with AMALGA is so much more. It has a symmetry that is beautiful and a sound that is not too abrupt or harsh. It references a place in Juneau, but has a familiarity and appeal that will be approachable when our gin and whiskey are sent out into the world (watch out lower 48)! Just take a look at it again. AMALGA. It is lovely and fitting. Some of the greatest single malts have some of the most peculiar and beautiful names, and we know that AMALGA will fit in just fine. We’ll leave you with some pictures (we all love some Walt). Inspired by our bike rides and afternoon cocktail hours at Amalga Harbor, we will be starting a small series of how-to videos to share our love of cocktails with you. Enjoy. Responsibly.[/x_text][x_image type=”none” src=”http://www.amalgadistillery.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/cocktailguide-01.jpg” alt=”” link=”false” href=”#” title=”” target=”” info=”none” info_place=”top” info_trigger=”hover” info_content=””][x_image type=”none” src=”http://www.amalgadistillery.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/P3220259.jpg” alt=”” link=”false” href=”#” title=”” target=”” info=”none” info_place=”top” info_trigger=”hover” info_content=””][x_image type=”none” src=”http://www.amalgadistillery.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/IMG_6274.jpg” alt=”” link=”false” href=”#” title=”” target=”” info=”none” info_place=”top” info_trigger=”hover” info_content=””][x_image type=”none” src=”http://www.amalgadistillery.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/IMG_2729.jpg” alt=”” link=”false” href=”#” title=”” target=”” info=”none” info_place=”top” info_trigger=”hover” info_content=””][x_video_embed no_container=”false” type=”16:9″]
