Now for the ramblings: This is certainly the bolder and more eccentric of the two releases. A bit more powerful on the pallet, and just tricky to describe because how many of us have the context on Pineau des Charentes? The first thing you are certainly going to notice is the color - it is a really lovely light amber. Actually, the first thing you are going to notice is the label. It is really subtle and gorgeous with its gray tones. This gin is sweet and floral. And sweet. Really sweet - but not sugary or cloying. The type of sweet that makes it seem rich and full. Sampling this one always required a double take. Actually, when we first began sampling it, we thought nothing was really happening. No color, not much interesting, not much change. But then, at just over a year, it had a bit of a twinkle. Then, it just exploded. Actually, the whole reason these are coming out is because of how exciting this gin had become. Its sibling, the Calvados Cask Juneauper Gin, was kind of the golden child - alway nice, always easily understood and well behaved. Did exactly what we thought it would do. This one took its time, was a bit stubborn, and then - suddenly - blew us away 🤯🤯🤯. This is, once again, prime for a martini. Like a really amazing martini. However, because of the cognac influence (PDC is fortified with cognac), it is really well suited for some obscure and delicious cocktails. May we recommend making a Sidecar with this gin? Just leave out the cognac or simply rinse the glass with it. So...something like this: step 1: rinse a martini glass with cognac (if you have it) step 2: combine 1.5oz gin, 1oz Cointreau, and .5oz Lemon Juice into a cocktail shaker step 3: Shake and strain into your glass. Express a lemon peel over it and discard. Or drop it in. We don't care. Of course, no one is going to judge you if you pour the above into a collins glass full of ice and top it with soda water and a tiny bit of simple syrup. Or, if you make it in a flute and top with a bit of champagne. What we are trying to say, is this gin is luxurious. And it will make some really special cocktails. And we miss hanging out with you all. ❤️❤️❤️
