GLENEAGLES MADEIRA SINGLE CASK
BBQ in a good way
This is a good whiskey, I think. Especially for this time of year. You may have noticed that the days are getting a little shorter. If you step out of the house early in the morning, you can see your breath. This is the time of year that I look forward to a nice fire outside. Things feel a little cozy. While they may be having a fresh heat dome down south, the fireweed is getting floofy around here and the alpine is turning orange and red. Sure, we will still have epic sunny days that are warm and delightful, but the evenings will cool off faster and get CRISPY.
This is crispy evening sipping whiskey. Make a fire and cook something over it whiskey. With some good friends or with a good book or some good music whiskey. Not everyone will love this whiskey, but some of you will LOVE this whiskey. It is SMOKEY, made from a heavily peated Scottish barley called Gleneagles (badass). The smoke is intense in this one, but balanced with so much sweetness from the Madeira cask it called home for seven years and eleven months. If you could turn BBQ ribs into a whiskey, this is what you would end up with. Which, sounds appalling to be honest. But I don’t really know how to explain the sweet and Smokey and savory combo we’ve got going on here. Add to it that we bottled it straight out of the cask at 62% ABV - this thing is A LOT in a good way. The barrel it was in was spectacular. But. It leaked like a sieve and it was so beloved that it was sampled more than most. So - we ended up with only a little over 100 bottles.
Earlier I said this whiskey is good, but to be honest, for the right whiskey appreciator this whiskey is exceptional. If you are a fan of peat, this is a real unique treat. If you don’t like peat, there’s a chance the sweetness changes your mind. We are incredibly proud of this one, and genuinely can’t believe that we get to make whiskey like this in Southeast Alaska. Thank you all for making it possible.
